Have in iPhone? Now you can have Carl on your phone--for free

If you have an iPhone, or know a jazz fan who does, now is the time to download the Carl Saunders application. Search in the iTunes store on Carl Saunders, or go to this link. The Carl Saunders iPhone app contains audio clips from two of Carl's CD's, photos, videos, Carl's schedule, his bio, and more. Carl's is the first iPhone app for a jazz musician that we know of. Now you can have Carl in your pocket.

Classic Holman band videos on YouTube

Many thanks to Doug Ramsey for spotting some fascinating studio recording video from a session in 1991.  Great shots of Carl on lead trumpet.  See how many other LA greats you can recognize.  The video was directed and shot by the late, great Stan Levey.  Look around in YouTube and you'll find several other videos from the same Charlie Shoemake session.

My Fair Lady review

Don't know how I missed this, but here's a review from the December 2005 performance of "My Fair Lady", as arranged by John Williams and recorded by Shelly Manne. Carl was featured in the jazz quintet "inside" the big band. According to the Variety reviewer Richard Ginell, Carl was "in ripping good form all night".

Carl's Newest CD--"Can You Dig Being Dug?"

Yes, this live recording is hip.  What else would you expect from CS?  Recorded live at Charlie O's in Van Nuys, CA, "Can You Dig Being Dug?" features Carl with his LA quartet: Christian Jacob (piano), Dave Stone (bass), and Santo Savino (drums).  If you're like me, you often find yourself smiling and shaking your head in disbelief at some of the things Carl does.  Check out some of the sound clips and see if you can sit still.
